mr1600: Even though he passed away long before I was born, Even though he lived in Oregon and I live in New York, Even though he was a long distance specialist, and I am a mid-distance runner, Even though he was a front runner, and I am a kicker, Steve Prefontaine is my idol. He ran in such a gutsy way that even people who don’t normally like running saw him and got excited by his races. He brought personality and charisma into a sport which typically lacks it.
